"How long will it last?" is the first thing almost everyone asks before booking a keratin treatment — fair enough, given the investment. The honest answer: 3–6 months, and a lot of that range is in your hands.
The short answer: 3–6 months
A professional keratin treatment typically lasts three to six months. It doesn't fall out overnight — it fades gradually as it washes out, so your hair eases back to its natural texture rather than changing suddenly.
What affects how long it lasts
- How often you wash. Every wash removes a little of the treatment. Washing 2–3 times a week instead of daily makes a big difference.
- Your shampoo. Sulfates and salt strip keratin fast. A sulfate-free shampoo is the single most important factor.
- Your hair type. Fine, straighter hair tends to hold results longer; thick, very curly or coarse hair may wear faster.
- Water exposure. Chlorine (pools) and salt water (sea) accelerate fading.
- Heat and styling. Gentle styling helps it last; harsh daily heat shortens it.
How to make yours last longer
- Wait 48 hours before the first wash.
- Use a sulfate-free shampoo — always.
- Wash less often (2–3 times a week).
- Use heat protection when you style.
- Rinse after swimming and avoid heavy chlorine/salt exposure.

Signs it's time to rebook
You'll notice frizz creeping back, your hair taking longer to style, and less shine. That's the cue to book your next keratin treatment — most people return every 3–4 months.
Is it worth it?
For months of smooth, frizz-free, low-effort hair, most clients find it well worth it. See current prices by hair length, learn what a keratin treatment is, or book in Belfast or Carrickfergus.
